Middle School Music Program Coordinator

SUMMARY:
We are looking for a Music Program Coordinator for our after-school initiative at Harriman After School and Summer Programs. The Coordinator will be tasked with designing and leading captivating musical activities for middle school students enrolled in our program. The ideal candidate should possess expertise in band education and demonstrate the ability to create an engaging learning environment that inspires students.
We seek a specialist in percussion or band who can effectively teach essential techniques in performance and marching, including rudiments, cadences, and music theory. Applicants should have a solid foundation in band education and exhibit reliability and competence.
Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays - 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants
- Engage every student in assigned activities, ensuring inclusivity
- Develop weekly lesson plans tailored to your area of expertise
- Prepare and facilitate meaningful activities that promote skill development while reinforcing previously learned concepts
- Assist in various program activities, which may include supervising students, managing dismissals, attending field trips, hosting special events, and other related tasks
- Collaborate closely with the Group Leader in the development of lesson plans
- Participate in all required meetings, training sessions, and special events, which may occur outside regular hours
- Complete 15 hours of professional development annually
- Act as a positive role model for students
- Familiarity with DYCD and DOH regulations
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant training or certification in your area of expertise; college students are encouraged to apply; a college degree is preferred
- At least two years of experience working with middle school-aged children
- Exceptional skills in group management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Competence in youth development and childcare
- Ability to create interactive and age-appropriate academic and enrichment activities
- Genuine enthusiasm for professional growth through training and practical experience
- Ability to work collaboratively within a school community
- Effective and respectful communication with colleagues
- Dependable and cooperative
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Preferred: College degree; college students are welcome to apply
- Minimum of one year of experience working with middle school-aged children
Job Type: Part-time
Compensation: $30.00 per hour
Drug Testing:
Staff members may be subject to random drug testing throughout the academic year.
