Job Title: Water Systems Analyst, Bureau of Environmental Sciences and Engineering

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Systems Analyst to join our team at the Bureau of Environmental Sciences and Engineering. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing scientific research and literature review of proposed water quality standards and regulations, new water treatment technologies, emergency preparedness, analytical methods, surveillance tools, protocols, data systems, and processes related to our programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide scientific research and literature review of proposed water quality standards and regulations, new water treatment technologies, emergency preparedness, analytical methods, surveillance tools, protocols, data systems, and processes related to our programs.
  • Utilize data analytics and reporting to analyze compliance related to office-issued permits and prepare public-facing datasets.
  • Assist with tracking required lead testing and remediation in school drinking water and provide input on sampling plans and building water management plans as needed.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of data quality assurance and quality control procedures to standardize data and generate routine and ad-hoc data reports as requested.
  • Test and provide feedback on software-based data collection and reporting tools, monitor the data exchange process of lead testing in school drinking water results, and prepare and update documentation of program protocols.
  • Review engineering plans for bathing establishments and drinking water supply, treatment, and monitoring systems submitted by outside agencies and/or engineers/architects for regulatory approval and permit construction and operation oversight and provide written comments regarding compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Conduct regulatory water quality surveillance of the New York City drinking water supply program including collection of water quality samples and operational data analysis and compliance review.
  • Prepare scientific reports as it relates to the program's compliance and surveillance activities, study findings, regulatory review of the City's drinking and recreational water quality programs.
  • Assist in development of technical guidance, informational fact sheets, and recommendations related to drinking water treatment technologies, nonpotable water reuse, emerging contaminants, and recreational water safety.
Requirements:
  • Background in engineering, chemistry, biological sciences, data sciences, or public health.
  • Experience in engineering plan and specification review, water treatment, water quality monitoring, and data analytics or database management.
  • Experience using R, SQL, Tableau, or ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
  • Ability to communicate written and orally with members of the public and technical experts.
  • Easily adaptable to a dynamic work environment.
