About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer to join our team at Burns & McDonnell. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for assisting project teams in creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist project teams in designing and analyzing structural systems and materials, including steel, concrete, masonry, and cold-formed steel.
  • Perform detailed structural calculations and design for a variety of structural systems and materials.
  • Design new industrial and manufacturing facilities, equipment foundations, and utility supports.
  • Provide construction support by answering construction questions, reviewing contractor submittals, and performing field site visits.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Assist in the structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for various projects, including power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, and healthcare facilities.
  • Design structural components for project needs and requirements.
  • Apply basic knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Assist with research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
  • Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in standard structural engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and structural analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
