Job Summary

At Prisma Health, we are seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Technician to join our team. As a Phlebotomy Technician, you will play a critical role in the healthcare process by collecting blood samples from patients and ensuring their safety and comfort.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect blood samples from patients and access them into the computer system for accurate testing and billing.
  • Verify patient identification and properly label specimens with required information.
  • Use correct alternate patient identification procedures if hospital armband is not available.
  • Input and assess information via the hospital and laboratory computer systems accurately and timely.
  • Review collection lists, unreceived lists, tracking logs, and telephone log for completion of work.
  • Instruct patients on preparation or collection for tests ordered and distribute collection containers when necessary.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks and use time efficiently.
  • Follow safety procedures and respond correctly and immediately to safety violations and safety drills.
  • Process specimens for testing, including identifying, sorting, aliquoting, centrifuging, and labeling specimens appropriately.
  • Assure proper storage and retention of all specimens for their designated time.
  • Packages and prepares specimens for transport while maintaining appropriate specimen temperature for stability.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent OR post-high school diploma/highest degree earned.
  • Three (3) month training in phlebotomy.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience or training in formal programs which include phlebotomy may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Able to use correct technique, policy, and protocol in collection and process of all specimens.
  • Able to complete all required competencies in required time frame with documentation in personnel file.
  • Proficient computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database).
  • Data entry skills.
  • Able to proof-read documents.
Work Environment

This is a variable shift position at Patewood Memorial Hospital.
