Job Summary

At Prisma Health, we're committed to transforming healthcare for the benefit of our communities. As a Phlebotomy Technician, you'll play a vital role in our laboratory team, ensuring the safety and comfort of our patients while collecting specimens for testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient identification and properly label specimens with required information
  • Use correct alternate patient identification procedures when necessary
  • Input and assess information via hospital and laboratory computer systems accurately and timely
  • Review collection lists, unreceived lists, tracking logs, and telephone log for completion of work
  • Take appropriate action as needed, including instructing patients on preparation or collection for tests ordered
  • Organize and prioritize tasks, using time efficiently
  • Follow safety procedures and respond correctly to safety violations and drills
  • Process specimens for testing, including identifying, sorting, aliquoting, centrifuging, and labeling specimens appropriately
  • Assure proper storage and retention of all specimens for their designated time
  • Package and prepare specimens for transport, maintaining appropriate specimen temperature for stability
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three-month training in phlebotomy
  • Previous phlebotomy experience or training in formal programs may be considered
Preferred Qualifications
  • Able to use correct technique, policy, and protocol in collection and processing of all specimens
  • Able to complete all required competencies in required time frame with documentation in personnel file
  • Proficient computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management
  • Data entry skills and ability to proof-read documents
