Job Summary

As a Patient Care Technician in the Emergency Department at Danbury Hospital, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the healthcare team. This is a part-time position, working 24 hours per week, with a standard schedule of 8-hour shifts from 7am to 3pm or 11am to 7pm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing the treatment area, including checking and maintaining stock and supplies.
  • Prepare patients for exams, undress patients, position them for comfort, and adhere to monitoring devices.
  • Perform various tasks, including vital signs, I&Os, EKGs, bladder scans, blood glucose, phlebotomy, and the use of durable medical equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with the RN and providers in various care settings within the ED.
  • Participate as an active member of the ED team in the care of complex patients, including trauma and cardiac arrest.
  • Perform hourly rounding and maintain regular communication with patients and their family members.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with team members regarding patient status to proactively manage care and address any issues.
  • Document task completion and patient care interactions.
  • Transport patients to testing and in-patient units.
  • Complete mandatory continuing education and attend staff meetings.
  • Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Requirements
  • Current EMT, Medical Assistant certification, or Nursing student, or 1 year prior ED experience.
  • CPR certification required.
Working Conditions
  • Significant manual skills and motor coordination.
  • Significant occupational risk.
  • Very Heavy effort, exerting up to 50 lbs. force.
  • Significant exposure to dirt, odor, noise, human waste, etc.
