Role Responsibilities
As a Patient Account Coordinator, you will play a vital role in shaping the patient experience. Your responsibilities will include:
- Creating a Welcoming Environment: Ensure an organized front desk and greet patients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy.
- Streamlined Check-In/Out Process: Efficiently manage patient check-ins, verify appointments, update personal information, and handle insurance and referrals.
- Effective Communication: Respond to incoming calls, provide facility directions, and maintain clear communication with therapists regarding scheduling and patient requirements.
- Financial Oversight: Manage point-of-service payments, maintain daily financial records, and reconcile receivables. Prepare insurance claims and patient statements.
- Patient Support: Assist patients in understanding their billing, establish payment plans, and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Insurance Knowledge: Conduct insurance verifications and prior authorizations, liaise with adjusters, and stay informed about third-party billing and reimbursement processes.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Partner with colleagues to identify and resolve any accounts receivable trends, denial issues, or workflow irregularities.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to compliance and regulatory standards, and provide recommendations for write-offs to management.
- Flexible Support: Be prepared to assist at various locations as needed due to staffing shortages.
Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or GED (Bachelor's degree preferred).
- At least one year of experience in medical billing and account follow-up.
- Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers is preferred.
- Understanding of Medicare, managed care, and commercial insurance products.
- Experience with physician billing and collections.
- Typing speed of 55 wpm and proficient use of a calculator.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment: This position involves regular use of hands and arms, repetitive movements, and extended periods of sitting and computer work. The ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds and manage stressful situations is essential. The work environment may have moderate noise levels, and interactions may involve various patient behaviors, requiring a calm and professional demeanor.
