The expected salary range for this position is between $135,000.00 and $181,000.00, with the final offer depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as a market analysis at the time of hiring. JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Analyst - Operational Risk Management is tasked with ensuring compliance with the Operational Risk Management Framework and Program at Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group. This role involves identifying, assessing, monitoring, and reporting operational risks across the organization. Under the guidance of the Business Control Officer, the Senior Analyst will oversee various components of the Program, including Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), issue management, and operational risk event reporting. The Analyst will possess a deep understanding of operational risk frameworks and controls, assisting the business in managing first-line risk activities and escalating emerging risks or issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise the implementation of operational risk policies, technologies, and governance processes to create sustainable solutions for minimizing losses and addressing regulatory concerns stemming from inadequate controls and emerging risks.
  • Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of activities executed by business units and support functions to ensure adherence to the Program and Bank policies.
  • Drive the RCSA process to ensure consistent application of the established framework and risk taxonomy for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and reporting risk issues. Challenge the inputs from business units to ensure accurate risk identification and assessment.
  • Facilitate the collection of operational risk event data, including detailed analysis of specific issues/events and trends to identify significant or emerging risks, ensuring appropriate remediation plans are enacted.
  • Manage the collection and evaluation of operational loss data, analyzing root causes of process failures to identify trends and recommend control enhancements.
  • Identify emerging risks related to business drivers, regulatory changes, and industry trends to ensure that Bank policies and processes adequately address these risks.
  • Collaborate with business units to develop periodic risk management metrics that quantify exposure to various operational risks. Monitor overall risk levels and the quality of the control environment to ensure alignment with the Bank's Risk Appetite Statements.
  • Review and assess new product/service proposals to proactively identify and evaluate operational risks, challenge the proposed control environment, and offer recommendations for improvement.
  • Advocate for and implement industry best practices to continuously enhance the Program and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Establish and nurture positive working relationships with process owners, business management, and other stakeholders. Influence stakeholders and promote a compliance-oriented culture throughout the organization.
  • Perform duties specific to the position and other functions as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 10+ years in operational risk management, internal controls, or related fields within a financial institution or services company.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of operational risk frameworks and controls, including the COSO internal controls framework.
  • Skills: Experience in risk assessment, including evaluating and designing controls, conducting impact assessments, identifying control gaps, and remediating risks.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and quantitative skills in risk and internal controls.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to understand complex operational processes, effectively scope assessments, manage projects, and influence across divisions.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with data analytics, incident management, application testing, quality control, and change management is a plus.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
