About the Role

WSP is seeking a talented Early Career Civil Engineer to join our Portland, ME office. As a member of our WSP USA Earth & Environment Team, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, including site development, infrastructure, landfills, stream restoration, and soil/groundwater remediation.

Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision, you will assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction. You will also assist with performing basic professional civil engineering work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.

Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineer or closely related discipline is required. 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience is preferred. Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset are essential. Familiarity with relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements is also required. Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience are necessary. Willingness to accept responsibility and additional support tasks is also required. Strong dedication to maintaining a safe work environment and promoting company safety culture is essential. Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as required is also necessary. Ability and willingness to travel to project sites, approximately 10% overnight travel, is required. Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment is essential. Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives is also necessary. Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools is required. Ability to prepare design engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings is also necessary. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies is essential. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek is also necessary. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
