Position Summary:

The Financial Accountant plays a crucial role within the Accounting Department, contributing to monthly financial reporting, cash application processes, and audit preparation. This position involves managing fuel transactions and meter readings, as well as assisting in the annual audit by preparing various audit work papers. The ideal candidate will also address inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders, emphasizing our commitment to exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute daily and monthly cash application and reconciliation tasks.
  • Identify and communicate with clients regarding overdue accounts, ensuring accurate data entry into tracking systems.
  • Conduct monthly financial reporting activities.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly sales and use tax filings.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation in line with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Process monthly fuel and meter reading transactions.
  • Establish new equipment purchases in the fixed asset database.
  • Assist in maintaining the company’s equipment listing and fixed asset records.
  • Provide backup support for various accounting roles as needed.
  • Collaborate on special projects as directed by management.
  • Engage with the CFO, Shop Manager, Logistics & Equipment Manager, Sales, and Vendors as necessary.
  • Prepare various work papers for the annual audit.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Experience:
  • A minimum of two years of professional accounting experience is preferred, with a background in construction or manufacturing being advantageous.
  • Proficiency in computer applications is required.
Education:
  • A High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred, or five or more years of relevant work experience in cost or financial accounting.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role may also be considered.

Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and 10-key calculator by touch.
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills are essential.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Capable of reviewing and processing a high volume of invoices accurately.
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy are critical.
  • Demonstrated dependability, organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • High energy, initiative, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Customer service-oriented mindset.
  • Able to work efficiently in a dynamic environment with frequent interruptions.

Work Environment:
  • This position is primarily office-based.
  • Interaction with internal and external customers is a key component of the role.
