Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington (SMGW) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals through the Next Step program. As Development Director, you will play a crucial role in leading our fundraising efforts and inspiring others to make a positive impact.

Position Summary

We seek an experienced professional to oversee all fundraising activities, including individual giving, corporate sponsorship, grant-writing, event planning, and planned-giving. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing a staff team and collaborating with volunteers to achieve organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Development Team and other leader groups in devising and executing development plans and strategies
  • Serve as staff leader for the Development Committee Chair and engage the Committee to empower the organization to expand its fundraising reach and impact
  • Represent SMGW to partner churches, schools, corporations, and other audiences, particularly in terms of development needs, challenges, and opportunities
  • Manage a 5-person team, including the roles of Development Associate, Communications Associate, Volunteer Manager, and Grant writer
  • Oversee the work of the Grantwriter, including prioritizing, editing, and researching grant proposals and reports
  • Design and manage all fundraising activities and solicitations, including soliciting individual donors and partners
  • Collaborate with the Communications Associate around design, preparation, and production of organizational publications
  • Engage and manage participation in the United Way/CFC Campaign, including the in-house campaign
  • Serve as lead staff planner and engagement organizer for key fundraising events

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of proven fundraising experience, including experience directly managing a staff team of at least three in a non-profit
  • B.A. or B.S. degree from a 4-year college; additional formal training is not required but appreciated
  • Proven writing and verbal communication skills, as well as analytical and 'people' skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and be accountable for meeting deadlines in a demanding environment
  • Experience with churches and church people, notably in terms of faith-motivated donors and church mission
  • Proven ability to solicit and secure major individual and corporate gifts in collaboration with others
  • Extensive digital competency, including Internet, MS Office Suite, Adobe, and donor database experience

The estimated salary for this position is $100,000-$110,000, depending on cumulative experience, relevant credentials, and breadth of tenure in similar positions.
