Position Overview

The Aquatic Life Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the aquarist team in the care and management of aquatic animals and their environments. This role ensures that guest-accessible areas meet industry standards, schedules presentations for guests, and maintains accurate records related to animal care and water quality.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise the aquarist team to achieve departmental objectives; organize workloads and staff schedules for optimal efficiency.

Participate in the recruitment and hiring process.
Train aquarists on educational presentation scripts and guide them during tours as necessary.

Act as Manager on Duty as assigned, ensuring smooth operations, which includes overseeing opening and closing tasks, filling roles adequately, and ensuring timely tours.

Engage in aquarium responsibilities, including setting up and dismantling exhibits, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting aquarists as needed.
Research and develop diets to meet the nutritional needs of the animals, ensuring adherence to feeding protocols. Maintain current records regarding animal health and dietary requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

High level of self-motivation with the ability to work independently or collaboratively within established guidelines.

Ability to maintain safety during feeding procedures.
Capability to interact with challenging individuals in a calm and courteous manner.
Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking clear English for effective communication with colleagues and the public.
Must be at least 18 years old.

Educational Background

A bachelor's degree in marine science or a related discipline, or completion of advanced coursework in a relevant field along with equivalent experience is required.

Minimum of one year of experience in an aquarium or zoological setting, particularly with closed aquatic systems.
Experience in a public aquarium is preferred.
Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record for the past three years.
Successful candidates must pass a drug screening and background check.
