Position Overview: Chess Instructor

Are you dedicated to fostering a love for chess in young learners? At Magnus Chess Academy, formerly known as Silver Knights Chess, we seek individuals who are excited about engaging with elementary school students. With nearly two decades of experience educating around 100,000 children, we are eager to welcome you to our team.

Compensation: $55 - $75 per hour for each club session

Note: Please consider that the overall time commitment includes preparation and cleanup tasks.

If you:

• Have a passion for chess and enjoy sharing your enthusiasm for the game
• Prefer teaching in small group settings for children aged 5-11
• Are available for part-time roles during after-school hours and full-time opportunities in the summer
• Possess experience as a camp counselor, tutor, coach, or in similar positions
• Are comfortable with driving and have a flexible schedule

We provide thorough paid training to prepare you with the skills necessary to teach chess effectively in a group setting.

Sample Daily Schedule:

• 2:45 PM - Arrive at the school and prepare
• 3:00 PM - Conduct lessons for students
• 3:20 PM - Organize practice games
• 4:00 PM - Clean up and assist with parent pickups

Qualifications:

• Understanding of chess rules and basic strategies, or a willingness to learn
• Interest in working with young children; prior classroom experience is advantageous
• Have a reliable vehicle for transportation
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs of educational materials

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee a class of 10-20 students
• Deliver lessons based on our curriculum, focusing on rules and strategies
• Encourage sportsmanship among students
• Efficiently maintain teaching equipment and materials
