Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Police Officer to join our team as a Lateral Officer. As a Police Officer with the City of Antioch, you will be responsible for protecting the community and enforcing laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas to observe, investigate, and report suspicious and hazardous conditions.
  • Apprehend and arrest law violators.
  • Respond to routine and emergency calls for protection of persons and property, and for the enforcement of City ordinances and State laws.
  • Investigate crimes, accidents, deaths, and disturbances; gather evidence; interview, question, and take statements from complainants, suspects, and witnesses; complete case reports.
  • Take charge of juveniles and delinquents and work on cases involving unfit homes and crimes committed against or by juveniles.
  • Handle missing persons' cases and work with community organizations and governmental agencies in delinquencies and delinquency control programs.
  • Direct traffic, including regulation of vehicle flow at times of emergency or congestion; stop drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of laws and issue citations.
  • Appear in court to present evidence and testimony.
  • Search, guard, transport, and assist in the booking and custodial care of prisoners.
  • Serve writs, warrants, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
  • May be assigned to assist in conducting special studies related to the Police Department.
  • May be assigned to evidence, training, investigations, or other administrative assignments.
  • Provide information and direction to the public and assist in developing community crime prevention programs.
  • May speak before business, school, civic, and social groups.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and completion of a P.O.S.T. approved academy at time of appointment.
  • A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of hire.
  • Officers shall not have been convicted of any felony. A misdemeanor conviction may result in applicant disqualification and employee disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
  • A complete background investigation will be conducted.
  • Age: 21 years at time of appointment.

  • Senior Officer Pay - Percentage based on months of service as a Sworn Peace Officer in State of California
  • Shift Differential - 2-1/2% for Swing and 5% for Graveyard

Lateral Signing Bonus/Incentive

To qualify for the bonus/incentives, the applicant must:

  • Be currently employed as a police officer within a California law enforcement agency.
  • Have two (2) years of experience and have successfully completed a probationary period.
  • Possess a Basic California POST Certificate.
  • If the applicant is a former Antioch officer who wishes to return to the department, his/her separation of employment must be at least eighteen (18) months to qualify.

The bonus/incentives will consist of the following:

  • Applicant will be allowed to carry over up to 200 hours of accrued sick leave from his/her department.
  • Prior law enforcement service seniority will be used to determine vacation accrual rate of the applicant.
  • Automatic credit of 40 hours vacation upon employment.
  • Signing bonus of $30,000 with payments in the following increments:
    • $15,000 - upon successful completion of FTO
    • $2,500 - upon successful completion of probation
    • $5,000 - upon three (3) years of service
    • $2,500 - upon four (4) years of service
    • $5,000 - upon five (5) years of service
  • Any current Antioch employee who recruits a lateral officer will receive his/her choice of $1,000 or 20 hours of Comp Time upon the lateral's successful completion of the field training program.
