Position Summary:

The role of the renal care nurse involves managing hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis procedures for patients experiencing acute or chronic kidney failure, as directed by healthcare providers. This position requires travel to various healthcare facilities as needed.

To excel in this role, a renal care nurse should exhibit empathy towards patients and possess the ability to navigate high-pressure situations effectively. An outstanding renal care nurse will demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, along with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Expanded Position Summary:

In accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, this role is classified as a "Safety-sensitive position." This designation encompasses any job responsibilities that may impact the safety and health of the employee or others. Employees in safety-sensitive roles are subject to specific regulations and potential disciplinary actions in the event of a positive drug test.

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oklahoma
  • Preferred certification from the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission
  • Valid BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Previous experience in a dialysis nursing capacity
  • Strong communication and time-management skills, with the ability to work autonomously
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements
  • Proficient in computer applications relevant to the role (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, EMR software)
  • Valid automobile insurance coverage
  • Understanding of Medicare criteria and standards
  • Availability for on-call duties as required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and documenting patients' vital signs before, during, and after dialysis sessions
  • Administering hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatments accurately
  • Observing patients throughout the dialysis process to detect any adverse reactions
  • Developing and updating individualized nursing care plans
  • Conducting thorough assessments and verifying dialysis prescriptions
  • Promptly alerting the appropriate medical personnel of any issues arising during treatments
  • Collaborating with dialysis technicians to ensure proper setup and testing of dialysis machines and equipment
  • Providing education to patients regarding dialysis options, kidney disease management, and appropriate nutrition and exercise practices

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
