As a Hanger Prosthetic and/or Orthotic Specialist, you will utilize comprehensive training and collaborate with a clinical community of nearly 1600 providers to deliver or oversee the provision of thorough prosthetic and orthotic care.

You will assess patients, develop treatment plans, implement those plans, follow up with patients, and engage in practice management.

If you are not yet certified, you will provide care under the guidance of a certified clinician.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with physicians to evaluate and analyze patients' needs for prosthetic and/or orthotic services and recommending treatment options.
  • Examining and assessing patient needs related to medical conditions and functional loss.
  • Designing prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
  • Selecting materials, making cast measurements, and performing model modifications while considering new techniques and materials.
  • Conducting fittings, including static and dynamic alignments.
  • Evaluating and adjusting prosthetic and/or orthotic devices for optimal fit, function, and quality.
  • Instructing patients on the use of their devices.
  • Identifying and resolving issues to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Providing follow-up care with patients and physicians.
  • Offering in-service training to healthcare professionals.

Additionally, you will:

  • Utilize effective materials management and quality processes to enhance device quality while balancing costs.
  • Engage with physicians and case managers to review services and foster business relationships.
  • Plan and implement strategies to achieve revenue targets.
  • Document detailed clinical notes in patient records.
  • May mentor residents or newly certified clinicians.
  • Assist other clinical staff as needed.
  • Provide information for reimbursement activities.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To be considered, candidates must possess:
  • Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or
  • A baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics, or its foreign equivalent, and current ABC Board-Eligibility.

A valid driver's license and a driving record that meets Hanger's safety policy standards are required.
In states where licensure is mandatory, the ability to obtain and maintain state licensure may be necessary.


Additional Attributes for Success:
Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy, and physiology.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for presenting information clearly to patients and staff.
Interpersonal skills to build professional relationships with healthcare providers and patients are crucial, as is the ability to work collaboratively within a team.


Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be capable of lifting patients using biomedical techniques and must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds independently.
Frequent walking, bending, standing, and reaching are required throughout the workday.
