KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role is responsible for achieving the following outcomes:

  • Ensure all objectives are met safely while achieving full compliance with safety standards.
  • Formulate or assess process control execution strategies alongside the overall project development team during the proposal phase.
  • Create or evaluate project scope of hours and cost estimates for process controls.
  • Engage in P&ID development, operability and hazard assessments, and establish reliability, operability, and availability plans for control systems as necessary.
  • Develop or review technical risk matrices, assist in reliability and availability studies, and contribute to risk mitigation and project execution strategies.
  • Draft or evaluate functional requirements and detailed design specifications for control equipment, including instruments, control valves, analytical equipment, DCS, SIS, and other Process Controls deliverables, ensuring high quality and adherence to budget timelines.
  • Design and review control system architectures, programming, integration specifications, and plans.
  • Conduct or assist with SIL assessments and verifications in accordance with functional safety standards outlined in IEC61508.
  • Support product development initiatives aimed at enhancing competitiveness by minimizing installed capital costs or optimizing project engineering hours within Process Controls offerings.
  • Contribute to the implementation and enhancement of work processes within the discipline while mentoring and guiding junior engineers in the team.
Domestic and international travel to various Air Products facilities, customer sites, and plant locations is anticipated to be approximately 10-15% of the time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline with a minimum of 20 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proven experience in developing control applications using Siemens PCS7 and Step7.
  • Familiarity with other control platforms will be considered advantageous.
  • Experience in functional safety applications is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of SPI (In-tools) is beneficial.
  • Background in Control and Instrumentation applications.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise, effective communication skills, and a self-driven approach to teamwork with a proven ability to accept and manage responsibilities.
  • Capability to provide technical guidance and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Aptitude for working under pressure and navigating ambiguity.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues across diverse cultures.
  • Experience in project execution from concept through Basic and Detailed Design is highly desirable.
  • Experience in Green Hydrogen, Ammonia, and Electrolyzer systems would be advantageous.
Additionally, knowledge, skills, and experience in any of the following areas will be a significant advantage:
  • Expertise in various analytical techniques (Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Infrared & Ultraviolet Spectroscopy) and Gas Detectors.
  • Understanding of analyzer communication/transmission protocols and networking considerations for interfacing with Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • Analytical and troubleshooting capabilities in the field of analyzers.
  • Implementation of Cyber Security measures related to Industrial Control Systems.
