Job Overview

Position Summary

This role is essential for the collection of registration and fuel tax revenues for the state of Minnesota. Adherence to Minnesota Statute and compliance with the International Registration Plan (IRP) and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) is crucial. This position is responsible for ensuring that Driver and Vehicle Services meet the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) regulations. The individual in this role serves as the primary contact for the IRP and IFTA, assisting commercial motor carriers through various communication channels including public telephone, electronic credentialing, US mail, facsimile, and in-person service at public counters. The focus is on providing support, guidance, and education to customers regarding the registration and fuel tax reporting requirements of the IRP and IFTA programs.

Essential Qualifications

  1. Strong mathematical skills to accurately collect payments, handle cash transactions, and verify totals.
  2. Exceptional customer service abilities to deliver prompt, courteous, and precise information to clients in person, over the phone, and through written correspondence.
  3. Proficiency in English for reading, writing, and verbal communication; capable of interpreting a variety of materials and following detailed instructions; able to present clear explanations of relevant rules and regulations.
  4. Typing and keyboarding skills sufficient for efficient document preparation, editing, and finalization of emails, memos, reports, and other written communications that are grammatically correct and well-formatted.
  5. Data entry capabilities to input information accurately and swiftly, identify and rectify data entry errors, and maintain database integrity.
  6. Ability to receive and review source documents, compare them with database information, and ensure document accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Familiarity with word processing software for creating, formatting, editing, printing, and saving various documents, including invoices and reports.
  2. Knowledge of IRP/IFTA regulations or commercial transportation.
  3. Ability to interpret statutes and understand IRP and IFTA regulations.
  4. Capability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.

Physical Demands

This position may require occasional movement and transportation of items such as file boxes and tools, with assistance when necessary. While the weights involved may be minimal, the role may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.

Successful completion of a background investigation is required prior to employment, which includes:
