Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Professional to join our team at the University of Georgia. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research and development in the field of peanut breeding, with a focus on improving crop yields and disease resistance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and conduct field experiments to evaluate the performance of different peanut varieties.
  • Develop and implement new laboratory techniques to improve the efficiency and accuracy of DNA extraction and genotyping.
  • Collaborate with other researchers to identify and develop new procedures and technologies to improve the peanut breeding program.
  • Oversee the maintenance and organization of the greenhouse and seed lab, including plant care, seed inventory, and equipment maintenance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as plant genetics, molecular biology, or agronomy.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, including DNA extraction, PCR, and genotyping.
  • Experience with plant breeding and genetics, including the ability to conduct field experiments and analyze data.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Experience with bioinformatics and computational tools, including data analysis and visualization.
  • Knowledge of statistical software, such as R or SAS.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced research environment, with frequent travel to field sites and laboratory settings. The position will also require the ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during peak periods such as planting and harvest seasons.
