The Registered Nurse - Forensic Nurse Examiner (RN-FNE) at Johns Hopkins Medicine plays a vital role in providing sensitive, coordinated, and patient-centered care to victims of sexual assault and intimate partner violence. As a member of the Sexual Assault Forensic Nurse Examiner (SAFE) program, this RN-FNE participates in delivering emergency and prophylactic care, as well as providing information regarding proper medical follow-up for reported and non-reported cases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide forensic medical exams in all cases of sexual assault and intimate partner violence as requested by the victim or law enforcement.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care and support for victims.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in forensic nursing practices, staying up-to-date with the latest research and guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless care coordination.

Requirements:

  • A BSN is preferred for nurses hired prior to July 1, 2016.
  • All nurses hired after July 1, 2016 must hold a BSN or complete a BSN program within 4 years of their hire date with steady progress toward degree completion.
  • 2+ years of RN experience as a SAFE Nurse is strongly preferred.
  • Current Maryland license as RN, FNE-A/P certification through MBON, and BLS certification for healthcare provider are required.
