At Southland Industries, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. Our internship program is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in the design/build HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection industry.
Responsibilities- Assist design managers and project managers in coordinating projects using engineering, labor, equipment, materials, tools, and subcontracted services.
- Develop skills in design, estimating, and scheduling to understand the coordination of the design-build construction process.
- Support field labor, labor feedback, equipment and subcontractor procurement, document control, design, trade, and subcontractor coordination.
- Assist in budget analysis, cost and margin projections, estimate project changes and impacts, and assist in the development of project schedules.
- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Architectural, Electrical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Safety Sciences, or other related fields.
- Interest in technical courses such as fluids, heat transfer, CM scheduling, finance, and other related areas.
- Ability to read mechanical and plumbing drawings and identify work installed to track labor feedback accurately.
- Ability to prepare an equipment delivery log and track status of these orders.
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, vendors, and suppliers to procure, manage, and update the submittal process.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC design, including types of equipment used in the industry and general understanding of system operations.
- Hands-on experience in the design/build HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection industry.
- Opportunity to work side by side with company leaders and participate in socially distant group activities and team events.
