About the Internship

At Southland Industries, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. Our internship program is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in the design/build HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection industry.

Responsibilities
  • Assist design managers and project managers in coordinating projects using engineering, labor, equipment, materials, tools, and subcontracted services.
  • Develop skills in design, estimating, and scheduling to understand the coordination of the design-build construction process.
  • Support field labor, labor feedback, equipment and subcontractor procurement, document control, design, trade, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Assist in budget analysis, cost and margin projections, estimate project changes and impacts, and assist in the development of project schedules.
Requirements
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Architectural, Electrical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Safety Sciences, or other related fields.
  • Interest in technical courses such as fluids, heat transfer, CM scheduling, finance, and other related areas.
  • Ability to read mechanical and plumbing drawings and identify work installed to track labor feedback accurately.
  • Ability to prepare an equipment delivery log and track status of these orders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, vendors, and suppliers to procure, manage, and update the submittal process.
