Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Trial Attorney to join our team. As a Senior Trial Attorney, you will be responsible for providing high-quality legal representation to clients in the Arlington Public Defender's Office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in all phases of criminal cases, from initial appointment to final appeal
  • Try cases in the General District, Juvenile, and Circuit Courts
  • Identify and advocate for appropriate sentencing alternatives for clients
  • Develop and implement effective defense strategies
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve the best possible outcomes for clients

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and Virginia State Bar membership in good standing
  • At least three (3) years of criminal defense experience
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively represent clients at all stages of criminal cases
  • Extensive knowledge of criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence
  • Ability to mentor and serve as a role model of effective, zealous representation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior significant recent experience representing indigent defendants in a Virginia Public Defender Office or as a court-appointed attorney
  • Significant Jury trial experience
