Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant I to join our Internal Medicine team at Mount Sinai Hospital. As a Medical Assistant I, you will provide clinical office support to physicians and surgeons, and perform patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical support to physicians and surgeons, including checking schedules and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, and assisting with patient care and administrative duties.
  • Perform patient care responsibilities, including taking vital signs, relaying instructions to patients and families, and answering calls and providing pertinent information.
  • Fulfill clerical responsibilities, including sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and completing forms and requisitions as needed.
  • Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval.
  • Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies as applicable, and maintain a safe and secure work environment by following standards and procedures.
  • Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Assist in the maintenance of medical charts, including filing, op reports, test results, and home care forms.
  • May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with the Surgical Coordinator to verify times with patients, prepare charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms as necessary.
  • May perform proficient phlebotomy duties, appointment scheduling and registration for patients, updating patient demographic and insurance information, and maintaining, adjusting, and confirming patient office schedules.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant certificate program from an approved school or equivalent training and experience; preferred 2 years of Medical Assistant experience without the certificate program
  • Certified as Medical Assistant preferred
