Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant - Women's Health Professional will provide support to the Medical Department's professional staff, assisting with patient care during all stages of their visits. This role entails both front office and back office procedures, requiring a keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs, and socioeconomic needs. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct visit preparation activities for upcoming and next day's visits, ensuring all related reports, labs, and information are attached and available in patients' medical records prior to their appointment.
2. Participate in morning and afternoon team huddles, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration among team members.
3. Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, and document all information in patient charts and complete intake in the electronic health record.
4. Assist providers with patient exams and procedures, performing various lab tests, screenings, and phlebotomy testing procedures consistent with training and clinic policies.
5. Maintain and inventory medical equipment and supplies, restocking exam rooms as needed.
6. Clean exam rooms and labs between patient visits and after hours, adhering to established protocols.
7. Monitor provider inboxes and assist with medication refills and tasks, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks.
8. Perform prior authorizations for needed medications, referrals, and diagnostic testing as required.
9. Facilitate and log labs, X-rays, consults, referrals, and other reports as needed, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
10. Maintain tracking and log records per protocol, including immunizations, emergency kits, and injectables.
11. Adhere to infection control standards, including autoclaving instruments and logging autoclave testing.
12. Maintain effective communication and collaboration with front office staff, ensuring seamless patient care and administrative support.
13. Assist with training newly employed staff as directed, promoting a culture of knowledge sharing and professional development.
14. Comply with all MACT Health Board, Inc. policies and procedures at all times, upholding the highest standards of patient care and professionalism.
Requirements:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Current CPR certification required.
3. Current Medical Assistant licensure required.
4. Experience in the medical field preferred.
5. OB/GYN Women's Health back office procedures work preferred.
6. Medical Scribe work experience desired.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of universal precautions and infection control standards.
2. Familiarity with various working policies and procedures of the Medical Department.
3. Skill in taking and recording patient vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and urinalysis.
4. Knowledge of various clerical tasks required, including assisting patients with completing forms.
5. Knowledge of various tools and equipment used by physicians and nurse practitioners.
6. Knowledge of cleaning solutions and sterile processes.
7. Knowledge of confidentiality rules regarding medical information and the Privacy Act.
