Job Summary

The Speech Language Pathologist - Early Childhood Specialist will be responsible for providing auditory, speech, and language services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This position will involve delivering individualized and small group therapy, facilitating children's interactions with a curriculum, and designing and executing therapy lesson plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Therapy Services
    • Deliver individualized and small group therapy with a focus on auditory, speech, and language skills of students who are deaf or hard of hearing using assistive technology.
    • Facilitate children's interactions with a curriculum, based on the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards, which is child-centered, based on basic principles of child development, and will provide children with problem-solving skills and foundations for acquiring knowledge which is more content-related in the elementary years.
  • Lesson Planning and Implementation
    • Design and execute therapy lesson plans that include student's targeted auditory, speech, pragmatic, and spoken language goals, with a link to schoolwide themes, curriculum, and Pennsylvania state standards.
    • Collect and report on data for student's individualized outcomes, as set by the IEP.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Serve as an active, participating member in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings by attending and collaborating with teaching staff to report on IEP goals and draft new goals and objectives as student's achieve mastery.
    • Complete auditory, speech, and language standardized testing in accordance with Clarke's formalized testing protocol.
    • Write and submit trimester reports for students.
    • Participate in trimester progress report meetings.
  • Diagnostic and Support Services
    • Provide diagnostic information about auditory and spoken language skills of hearing-impaired preschoolers using formal tests, language samples, diagnostic teaching and observation.
    • Observe children in the classroom and record information related to all aspects of the child's developmental profile to be used later in quarterly reports.
    • Maximize opportunities for auditory and language development.
    • Facilitate children's communication and ensure carryover of activities between the classroom and individualized sessions.
  • Parent Support and Education
    • Provide a comfortable, supportive environment for parents in which they are respected, encouraged to observe their children in individualized sessions, and support in their efforts to communicate with their hearing-impaired child/children.
    • Educate, mentor and coach parents and provide them with follow-up activities which will enhance the development of their child's communication skills.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate effectively with Clarke staff, families, related service-providers, and health care professions as it relates to the care and success of students on their caseload.
    • Participate in regularly scheduled department/inter-department meetings.
Requirements
  • Education and Credentials
    • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA or a highly qualified Clinical Fellow.
    • Certification in Listening and Spoken Language Cert. AVT or AVEd. preferred.
    • Pennsylvania state credentials.
    • Pennsylvania State clearances - Child Abuse, FBI, Criminal Background Check.
  • Knowledge and Experience
    • Knowledge and experience in identifying, assessing, and providing treatment for individuals with speech and language delays or disorders.
    • Knowledge and experience in early childhood education.
    • Knowledge and experience with assistive listening devices, including but not limited to, hearing aids, cochlear implants, bone anchored hearing aids, and remote technology.
