Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, teaching and mentoring residents and fellows, and contributing to the research and academic missions of the group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Education: Staff inpatient services with learners, use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice, and demonstrate effective teaching skills.
  • Research: Participate in clinical and administrative research, maintain a level of scholarship in orthopaedic surgery consistent with academic rank, and contribute to the research and academic missions of the group.
  • Service: Work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.
  • Clinical: Admit and manage patients who present through the pediatric orthopaedic service, co-management of patients on other services, triage medicine patients requiring admission in the Emergency Department, and comply with all institutional policies for professional work.
  • Other: Ensure compliance with all regulatory and reimbursement requirements.
Requirements
  • M.D. degree and ABOS certification/eligibility in orthopaedic surgery.
  • Must have successfully completed an accredited fellowship program in pediatric orthopaedic surgery.
  • Record of scholarly publication in peer-review journals.
  • Direct experience managing complex pediatric orthopaedic cases, competence in standard inpatient procedures.
  • A solid understanding of the pediatric orthopaedic role and function and interest in teaching and growth in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Interest in furthering the research, scholarly, and academic missions of the group.
