Job Summary

The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is seeking a qualified Summer Camp Counselor to join our team. As a Summer Camp Counselor, you will be responsible for the supervision, health, and safety of an assigned group of children aged 5-12 years old.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and care for a group of children, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
  • Develop and implement engaging activities and programs that promote learning and fun.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to create a positive and inclusive camp environment.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and other required documentation.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on camp policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience working with children in a supervised setting preferred.
  • Proof of a negative TB test within the last two years.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 prior to first day of working at camp.
  • Complete and maintain required trainings, including New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check, sex offender registry check, and Child Protective Services check.

The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team setting, communicate clearly and respectfully, and maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations.
