Job Summary:
The Medical Records Specialist will provide support at a client site for the Release of Information (ROI) requests for patient medical records. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely release of medical records in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Determine records to be released by reviewing requestor information and obtaining pertinent patient data from various sources.
- Answer phone calls concerning ROI issues and respond to walk-in customers requesting medical records.
- Process requests from physician offices on a priority basis and fax information to the physician office.
- Log medical record requests into a database and scan medical records into the database.
- Comply with site facility policies and regulations.
- Handle and record cash payments for requests.
Requirements:
- Proficiency using computer applications and experience entering data into computer systems.
- Ability to work independently and meet production goals established by MRO.
- Strong verbal communication skills and success responding to customer inquiries.
- Success working in an environment that requires attention to detail.
- Proven track record of dependability.
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Prior work experience in Release of Information in a physician's office or HIM Department is a plus.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations is preferred.
