About the Job

This is a unique opportunity to join the Department of Health and Human Services as a Pediatric Dentist. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality dental care to children in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement pediatric dental programs based on the objectives of the overall IHS dental program.
  • Conduct special surveys on Indian groups to secure baseline information related to pediatric dental services.
  • Assist the Chief with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Pediatric Dentistry program.
  • Supervise hospital dental personnel as pertinent in the Pediatric Dental clinic.
  • Perform oral surgery, endodontic, prosthodontic, operative, and preventive orthodontic services to predominantly minor-age children with referral in appropriate complex cases.
  • Provide emergency services, including the treatment of trauma, pain, and infection.
Requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment examination.
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service healthcare facilities.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
  • Passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: In-depth knowledge and understanding of dentistry and the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry, highly developed diagnostic skills, expert treatment planning ability, outstanding behavior management skills, and considerable skill in administering treatment.
