Position Summary: We are looking for a passionate and skilled Special Education Instructor to become a vital part of our team in Wanaque, New Jersey. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of varied educational needs and will be dedicated to fostering an inclusive and nurturing learning atmosphere. This role involves supporting students with diverse disabilities and learning challenges, formulating individualized education plans (IEPs), and collaborating with fellow educators and families to promote student achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction and Support:
    • Craft and execute individualized education plans (IEPs) customized to meet the specific requirements of each student.
    • Design and present engaging, differentiated instructional activities that cater to various learning preferences.
    • Evaluate and track student progress, modifying teaching strategies and resources as necessary.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Establish and uphold a positive, supportive, and secure classroom environment.
    • Utilize behavioral management techniques to address and resolve challenges that may hinder student learning.
    • Encourage a classroom culture rooted in respect, empathy, and inclusivity.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate closely with general education instructors, support personnel, and administrators to ensure a unified educational experience for students.
    • Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, needs, and any issues.
    • Engage in IEP meetings and contribute to the formulation of educational objectives and strategies.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay informed about best practices in special education and integrate new methodologies into teaching.
    • Participate in professional development workshops and training sessions as required.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Keep precise records of student performance, attendance, and behavior.
    • Prepare reports and documentation as mandated by district and state regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Certification:
    • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
    • Valid New Jersey Special Education Certification (Teacher of Students with Disabilities or equivalent).
  • Experience:
    • At least 2 years of experience in special education (preferred but not mandatory).
    • Experience with a range of disabilities and learning challenges, including autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, and emotional disturbances.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
    • Capacity to adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate the needs of each student.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting students with special needs.
    • Ability to maintain a positive demeanor and resilience in a challenging environment.
