Job Overview

Powerhouse Arts is seeking a skilled Facilities Engineer to support the Chief Engineer in ensuring the efficient and safe operations and maintenance of mechanical systems at our Brooklyn facility.

This role will be responsible for performing routine assessments, conducting preventive and corrective maintenance on all MEPs, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform ongoing preventative and repair response work orders on facility mechanical, electrical, and other installed systems, equipment, and components.
  • Maintain and operate all HVAC operations, including buildings BMS, Mitsubishi VRF air conditioning system, 8 rooftop AC with indirect gas heat, VAV boxes, VFDs, fin tube radiators, pumps, and motors.
  • Inspect building systems, including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing, to ensure operations of equipment are within design capabilities.
  • Study and become familiar with various items or equipment and the methods required to use them properly.
  • Complete maintenance and repair records as required from a CMMS.
  • Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence efforts, reporting on as-found conditions impacting satisfactory occupancy and operations.
  • Estimate time and materials needed to complete repairs.
  • Respond quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
  • Participate in all Health and Safety Committee activities, including incident investigations, interviewing, auditing, and assessments.
  • Monitor and comply with all applicable government agency codes and regulations, including FDNY, DOB, DEP, EPA, and OSHA.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of technical experience in all aspects of building engineers with strong backgrounds in technical aspects of HVAC, plumbing, electrical production equipment repair, and maintenance.
  • Experience in industrial, university, laboratory, hospital, or similar buildings preferred.
  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to problem-solve and handle multiple projects.
  • Experience working with FDNY, DOB, and other government agency standards/codes.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA Standards and health and safety best practices.
  • A strong interest in the arts.
  • Fluency in G Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Dropbox/Box platforms required.
  • The following NYC Fire Department Certificate of Fitness is required: At our expense, we will send you to the FDNY to get the COF if you don't have it): F-01 Fire Guard for Impairment (Citywide), A-35 Operate and Maintain Air Compressors, F-03 Indoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel, F-78 Cleaning and Testing of Smoke Detectors, P-98 Fuel Oil Piping and Storage, S-12 Citywide Sprinkler System, S-13 Citywide Standpipe System, and S-15 Foam-Water Sprinkler System.

Special Requirements/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. following appropriate safety procedures.
  • Work in an upright standing position for long periods of time; be able to reach overhead; have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
  • Be able to work in various positions, including but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time, climbing stairs, navigating the property/building quickly and easily as required to meet the job functions.
  • Climb ladders and work at heights above ground level.
  • Ability to use scissor lifts to work at extended heights at 22-29 feet above ground.
  • Ability to work in different environmental working conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and humidity.
  • Repeat various motions with the wrists, hands, and fingers.

Hours + Compensation: The schedule for this position is an 8-hour shift from Monday-Sunday with schedules between 7:30-10:30pm. Evening and weekend work required. The salary for this role is $87,505.60 annually. Benefits include health insurance, employer-sponsored retirement plan, generous paid vacation and PTO, a CitiBike membership, and TransitChek.
