POSITION SUMMARY:

The Creative Arts Therapist will deliver high-quality therapeutic services through classroom, group, and individual sessions, focusing on the creative arts disciplines such as art, music, and dance. This role is dedicated to supporting students diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder, emphasizing the development of functional life skills, communication abilities, behavioral coping strategies, motor skills, and self-regulation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are essential to the role and may include but are not limited to:

  1. Conducting daily group and individual creative arts therapy sessions in accordance with the established therapy schedule.
  2. Providing small group instruction tailored to students on the autism spectrum and those with intellectual disabilities to facilitate their understanding and progress in the creative arts curriculum.
  3. Collaborating with the educational team to ensure comprehensive support and recommendations throughout the academic year.
  4. Managing documentation related to therapy cancellations and communicating with relevant personnel.
  5. Coordinating supply orders with the School Administrator/Clinical Coordinator in advance of needs.
  6. Supporting classrooms during extracurricular activities and community-based instruction as required.
  7. Maintaining open communication with teachers, service teams, case managers, and parents/guardians regarding student progress.
  8. Providing resources and recommendations to classrooms to enhance student learning and development.
  9. Overseeing the inventory of therapeutic supplies and planning for budgetary needs.
  10. Participating in weekly meetings with administration and related services to discuss student progress and action plans.
  11. Engaging in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in creative arts therapy.
  12. Creating a safe and inclusive learning environment that respects and celebrates diversity.
QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master's degree in Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, or a related field is preferred. A Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy or equivalent is required. Candidates must hold current registration or board certification (MT/MT-BC, ATR/ATR-BC, DMT/DMT-BC) and possess or be able to obtain a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) designation within six months of employment.

Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder or other intellectual disabilities is preferred. A Professional Educator License through the relevant state board is also required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position involves physical activity, including sitting, walking, and standing for extended periods. The role may require lifting and assisting individuals, as well as operating equipment. Candidates should be prepared for a dynamic environment with varying noise levels.
