Job Summary

The Allina Health Internal Resource Pool (IRP) Team is a dynamic group of Surgical Techs who provide support to multiple sites within our system hospitals. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to work in various settings, utilizing your skills and expertise to deliver high-quality patient care.

Key Position Details

Job Responsibilities

As a Surgical Technologist in the Internal Resource Pool, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing care to patients undergoing surgical intervention
  • Identifying, assembling, and facilitating the use of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies
  • Maintaining a safe environment for patients and other staff
  • Following aseptic technique standards of practice
  • Complying with regulatory requirements for point of use care of instruments
  • Handling medications and specimens according to policies and procedures
Principle Responsibilities
  • Participates as a surgical team member
    • Prepares the OR and sets up for procedures
    • Identifies supplies, instruments, and equipment needed
    • Maintains a safe environment for patient and other staff, using electrical equipment and instruments correctly
    • Follows aseptic technique standards of practice
    • Complies with regulatory requirements for point of use care of instruments
    • Handles medications and specimens following policies/procedures
  • Assists the physician in the scrub role during surgical procedures
    • Maintains a sterile field
    • Anticipates needs for instruments, equipment, and other supplies
    • Performs sponge, sharps, and other counts accurately
    • Accounts for all instruments and items on the field
    • Communicates to physician and circulator when needs arise during the surgical intervention
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Associates or Vocational Degree - Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology Program
  • 1+ years Surgical Technologist experience
Licenses/Certifications
  • Must meet ONE of the requirements below within 1 year of hire:
    • Certified Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
    • Technologist in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) Certification
  • Must meet ONE of the requirements below:
    • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
    • Current BLS certification from American Red Cross
    • Allina in-house BLS training within 30 days of hire
