Optum Home Infusion Pharmacist Job Description

At Optum, we're dedicated to delivering care and improving health outcomes for millions of people worldwide. As a Home Infusion Pharmacist, you'll play a critical role in connecting patients with the care and resources they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dispense unit doses, specialty pharmaceuticals, and related supplies in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Compound medications using sterile and ventilated environments, adhering to USP797 guidelines.
  • Process, pack, and ship outgoing pharmacy orders, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Perform drug/supply ordering and inventory/warehouse duties, including proper storage and refrigeration of perishable products.
  • Review medication orders, evaluating appropriateness and completeness, and considering special needs and behaviors.
  • Verify prescriptions not directly received from prescribers or physicians' agents.
  • Provide oversight of pharmaceutical care, ensuring safety, appropriateness, and effectiveness of specialty products dispensed.
  • Assess patients at therapy initiation, develop care plans, and monitor patients throughout therapy.
  • Communicate with patients, physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient status, response to therapy, and clinical objectives.
  • Compound intravenous and specialty pharmaceuticals in an aseptic fashion, adhering to established guidelines and company policy.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, DEA, State Board of Pharmacy, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Provide indirect oversight of pharmacy technicians and support staff.

Requirements:

  • BS in Pharmacy or PharmD degree.
  • Current, unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of Florida.
  • Solid drug product and clinical pharmacy knowledge.
  • Knowledgeable in various infusion-related therapies and ability to work through complexity of therapy-related orders.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to fill medication orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and rotate being on call based on business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Nutritionally Certified.
  • Pharmacist with Home Care or Home Infusion experience.
  • Sterile compounding experience.
  • CPR+ software experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting, standing, walking in an office/pharmacy operation environment.
