Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Highway Maintenance Worker to join our team at the Kansas Turnpike Authority. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our highway system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including trucks, tractors, rollers, and bulldozers, to maintain and repair roads and landscapes.
  • Perform manual labor tasks, such as loading and unloading materials, cleaning ditches and culverts, and shoveling snow.
  • Inspect and service vehicles and equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to complete tasks and provide input and problem-solving support.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure effective decision-making and problem-solving.
Work Environment

This position requires frequent outdoor work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, wind, and precipitation. You will also be required to work in confined spaces and at heights.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in the operation of heavy equipment and trucks.
  • Knowledge of traffic regulations and practices.
  • Ability to service and maintain vehicles and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Heavy equipment experience.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance.
  • Welding skills.
Physical Demands

This position requires frequent movement, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.
