About this role: The position involves receiving, organizing, pricing, and preparing donated goods for display in the retail environment. The candidate will assess the appropriateness and pricing of items based on established criteria, while also ensuring the store and sorting room remain orderly and clean. Additionally, the role includes assisting customers with donations, selections, and purchases, as well as operating a cash register and addressing customer inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receives, evaluates, and categorizes donated items such as clothing, footwear, household goods, and miscellaneous items according to their condition and category; selects suitable items for display and directs them to the appropriate area for further processing; disposes of unsuitable items following established guidelines.
  • Facilitates customer transactions by processing sales through a cash register; collects payments, counts change, and issues receipts; packages purchased items; balances the cash drawer and generates routine register reports; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales documentation in line with established protocols.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and security of the cash register area; ensures adequate supplies of forms, bags, etc.; keeps the warehouse area organized and tidy; performs cleaning duties for floors, tables, and workspaces.
  • Labels items with coded tickets and/or prices according to established procedures; organizes clothing on hangers and arranges them on racks.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.
  • One year of relevant experience is preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must be able to meet attendance requirements. Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English is required. Ability to operate a cash register, perform basic mathematical calculations, and handle cash transactions is essential. The role involves continuous walking, standing, stooping, and some climbing. Duties are primarily performed while standing, with occasional opportunities for sitting. Moderate physical effort is necessary, including walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Working Environment: The work may take place in a standard retail setting with minimal physical discomforts related to weather changes or noise, dust, and dirt. Additionally, some tasks may occur in a warehouse environment where physical discomforts may arise due to similar factors.
