Janitorial Assistant

The Argonne Facilities Division is seeking a dedicated individual to fill a Janitor position. This is a union position that will report to the Custodial Foreperson. The starting hourly rate for this position is $20.22, with a first shift schedule from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

• Requires one year of prior janitorial or custodial experience.
• Must demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.
• Preferred qualifications include experience with sweeping, dust-mopping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, waxing, and buffing floors.
• Responsibilities include picking up and disposing of waste paper and trash, removing trash, spot-washing walls, washing and sanitizing washroom facilities, and refilling washroom dispensers.
• Additional duties include washing and cleaning windows, sills, glass partitions, mirrors, lighting fixtures, and push-plates, as well as cleaning and washing the canteen and lunchrooms and their furniture.
• May operate and clean industrial types of mechanical equipment, such as scrubbing machines, buffers, polishers, and pick-up machines.
• Changes light bulbs and works from ladders as necessary to clean.
• Sweeps and shovels dirt and snow from building steps, platforms, and sidewalks.
• Performs miscellaneous related duties as assigned.
