About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Denver Public Schools. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in supporting students with mild to moderate needs, providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspiring Instruction: Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the unique needs of each student, promoting a love of learning and academic success.
  • Crafting IEPs: Create and manage Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that are tailored to each student's needs, ensuring that they receive the support they require to thrive.
  • IEP Meetings: Schedule and lead IEP meetings, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and aligned with the student's progress and goals.
  • Tracking Progress: Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback and celebrating achievements along the way.
  • Creating a Positive Vibe: Foster a classroom environment that is respectful, inclusive, and supportive, promoting social-emotional learning and character development.
  • Lesson Planning: Design and adapt lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of students, incorporating innovative strategies and technologies to enhance learning.
  • Behavior Management: Teach socially appropriate behaviors and self-regulation skills, promoting a safe and supportive classroom environment.
  • Medicaid Logging: Manage Medicaid logging for service reimbursement when applicable.
Requirements
  • Degree: A bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field is required. A Master's degree may be preferred for certain roles.
  • Certification: Hold a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Education Generalist License or Endorsement. Bilingual candidates with a Spanish language proficiency exam may be preferred for certain roles.
  • Experience: Experience working with students with exceptional needs is highly desirable. Familiarity with IEPs, FBA/BIPs, and co-teaching is also a plus.
  • Passion: A commitment to creating an equitable and supportive learning environment, and a passion for helping students with exceptional needs achieve their full potential.
  • Colorado Connection: Must be willing to live and work in Colorado while employed with Denver Public Schools.
