  • Responds promptly to emergencies, providing necessary assistance to both employees and customers.
  • Conducts assigned security patrols throughout the premises, which may include foot, vehicle, or bicycle patrols. Monitors access points and inspects packages of individuals exiting the buildings.
  • Observes and ensures the security and cleanliness of lobbies, waiting areas, elevators, and entrances.
  • Documents and submits reports regarding incidents, investigations, and activities, maintaining accurate departmental records.
  • Utilizes nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure the safety and respect of all individuals on-site.
  • Assists with navigation, parking, deliveries, and other inquiries related to the hospital and its affiliates.
  • Responds to security and medical emergencies, investigates incidents, gathers evidence, and communicates with relevant authorities as needed.
  • May be required to provide testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Safeguards patient valuables and manages lost-and-found items.
  • Monitors surveillance systems and other security technologies as directed.
  • Handles situations that may necessitate the exercise of law enforcement authority.
  • Assists supervisors in overseeing daily shift operations, ensuring that security personnel fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in security, corrections, or law enforcement is required.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Security Officer I within MedStar may substitute for direct law enforcement experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
  • Maryland Special Police Commission is preferred.

This role is integral to the safety and security of the healthcare environment, contributing to the overall mission of MedStar Health.
