Position Summary

The Anatomic Pathology Specialist utilizes their education, expertise, and analytical skills to conduct duties related to laboratory testing in the field of anatomic pathology. This role involves identifying technical and procedural issues, ensuring that testing systems operate correctly and within established parameters prior to initiating patient testing. The specialist will independently troubleshoot technical challenges within their authority and will escalate issues to management when necessary. Responsibilities also include staffing hours, participating in on-call rotations, and fulfilling additional tasks as required to support laboratory and organizational objectives. The schedule will be determined based on patient and laboratory requirements.

Compliance with laboratory and corporate regulations, as outlined by relevant governing bodies, is a critical aspect of our operational environment. Each team member is expected to be well-versed in and adhere to the Compliance Plans of the Laboratory and Medical Center. Our patient demographic ranges from newborns to adolescents, with occasional adult patients. Detailed instructions are provided in the procedural manuals.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma with two years of practical training in a high-complexity Histology laboratory; or an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Histology/Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related biological, chemical, or physical science, along with completion of an accredited Histology clinical practice program.
  • A minimum of six (6) months of experience in laboratory testing within a clinical environment, including tests classified as waived, moderate complexity, or high complexity. Clinical rotation experience may be counted towards this requirement.
  • Pediatric experience is preferred.
Certification Requirements
  • Candidates must hold certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or an equivalent nationally recognized certifying body, or be eligible for registry.
  • Registry-eligible candidates are required to pass the certification exam within one year of graduation; failure to do so may result in termination. Candidates who have not yet received certification may only perform waived or moderate complexity testing.
