Job Summary

The Environmental Scientist III will be responsible for leading the Mosquito Control Section in providing mosquito control services throughout Delaware. This includes monitoring and treating mosquito populations that emerge from wetland areas, conducting scientific and operational aspects of the program, and collaborating with other state and federal agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct mosquito surveillance and abatement practices, including monitoring and treating mosquito populations.
  • Collaborate with other state and federal agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Develop and implement mosquito control strategies, including the use of insecticides and other control methods.
  • Conduct research and analysis to improve mosquito control methods and programs.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders, including government officials and the public.
  • Supervise and train seasonal employees and other staff members.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
  • 6 months experience in environmental or natural resources project management, including planning, developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects.
  • 2 years experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
  • 2 years experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • 6 months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire, and report on data.
  • 6 months experience in technical report writing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6 months experience in mosquito control, including mosquito population monitoring, arbovirus surveillance, and insecticide use.
