Safety and Risk Services (SRS) operates as a key division within the dynamic Finance and Administration sector at the University of Oregon. Our department provides a comprehensive suite of professional services, including Emergency Management, Risk Management, and University Police services, all aimed at fostering a secure and inviting environment for everyone.

The University of Oregon Police Department (UOPD) is dedicated to cultivating an atmosphere of open communication and inclusivity, mirroring the values of a diverse educational community.

Role Overview

As a Public Safety Communications Specialist, you will be instrumental in delivering operational support to UOPD, Environmental Health & Safety, and Emergency Management divisions. Your duties will encompass assessing and directing incoming communications, overseeing alarm systems, and ensuring clear communication during emergencies.

In addition to managing emergency communications, you will collaborate with external responders and community partners to coordinate responses and bolster campus safety initiatives.

This position demands meticulous attention to detail, the capacity to perform under pressure, and strong communication skills to relay critical information to stakeholders and the public.

  • Field-based tactical communications support for campus events and special operations.
  • Updating and maintaining emergency notification protocols across university facilities.
  • Conducting tests and drills of emergency notification procedures to ensure preparedness.
  • Engaging with the community and supporting safety programs.
  • Providing records and court services to facilitate administrative tasks.

Special Requirements/Qualifications:

To thrive in this role, candidates must successfully complete a thorough background assessment, adhere to CJIS background requirements, and maintain confidentiality standards at all times. It is essential to complete a Communications Training Officer Program within six months of employment.

Assessment and Testing:

Successful completion of the skills assessment is required to advance in the selection process.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of experience in public-facing roles such as customer service, sales, or information reception.
