About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Technology to join our team at BioNews Services. As a key member of our Technology department, you will play a critical role in shaping our technological direction and ensuring the delivery of superior digital experiences for our audiences.

Responsibilities
  • Define and execute the technology strategy in alignment with the overarching goals of BioNews, collaborating closely with the Senior Vice President of Technology.
  • Act as a hands-on leader, directly engaging with technology projects and the development team to drive initiatives from conception to execution.
  • Oversee critical technology decisions and investments, ensuring they provide robust, scalable, and secure solutions.
  • Ensure the scalability, security, and performance of our WordPress sites, leading both strategic and tactical aspects of our technology stack.
  • Champion the integration of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to enhance product offerings and user engagement.
  • Maintain active involvement in the development and optimization of technical platforms, contributing directly to coding, problem-solving, and architecture refinement when necessary.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in WordPress development, including theme and plugin development & integration, custom post types, and advanced custom fields.
  • Oversee the integration of key technologies such as Google Analytics, Tag Manager, and Ad Manager within the WordPress ecosystem.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the technology team and other departments, ensuring technology initiatives align with business needs and editorial objectives.
  • Promote best practices in software development, cybersecurity, and data privacy within the team and broader organization.
About You
  • Proven leadership in technology with a track record of driving innovation and delivering results.
  • Strategic thinker who actively engages with technology solutions, demonstrating a deep understanding of WordPress, PHP (Timber&Twig), HTML, MySQL, CSS, JavaScript, and related frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud-based resources - Github, Google Cloud Platform, New Relic, data warehouses, Airbyte, CDPs, BigQuery, Google Analytics, Google Ad Manager and other advertising technologies.
  • Strong organizational and project management acumen, adept in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Collaborative and influential, providing clear direction and inspiration.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of resonating with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of digital platform architecture, software development, and technology trends.
Requirements
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Extensive experience in digital content or media industries.
  • Proficiency in overseeing technology strategy, infrastructure, and teams.
  • Demonstrated ability in fostering innovation and managing technological change.
  • Insightful experience in budgeting, vendor management, and technology governance.
