The Department of Central Sterilizing Services at The University of Iowa is seeking a highly skilled Central Service Technician to join our team. As a Central Service Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by processing and sterilizing medical instruments and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Decontamination and Sterilization: Decontaminate, inspect, clean, sort, disassemble, and reassemble complex surgical instruments and implant trays, operate automatic endoscope washers, sonic washers, and mechanical washer/decontaminators.
- Instrument Preparation: Access reference materials via computer systems, follow guides and instructions to assemble high volumes of complex instrument and implant trays, inspect and evaluate instruments for function and cleanliness, confirm all quality assurance mechanisms are in place, label, seal, and document all items processed.
- Sterilization and Packaging: Perform all aspects of sterilization, packaging inspection, equipment operation, safety procedures, proper documentation, and prioritization, sterilize items per manufacturer's instructions, verify correct parameters used for all instruments.
- Inventory Management: Perform inventory management for high volumes of supplies and implants, monitor and replenish stock levels through use of multiple computer software programs, check stock expiration dates, document usages in inventory system, restock items, and add new items to inventory.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular biological monitoring of sterilizers to ensure sterilizer efficacy, conduct challenge tests on sterilization and decontamination equipment, perform preventative maintenance functions on all equipment.
- Professional Development: Participate in and contribute to in-service programs on a regular basis.
- Education: High school graduation or equivalent, with courses in the physical and natural sciences and mathematics.
- Experience: One year experience in a hospital-related field that would provide a background in medical environment or sterile technique as it applies to medical supplies and equipment.
