About the Role
This position is part of our efforts to support immigrant communities. As a Staff Attorney, you will work under the direction of the Program Director to counsel and represent clients in complex immigration cases. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing consults and direct legal representation in USCIS and EOIR proceedings;
- Preparing court forms, applications, and other documents on behalf of clients;
- Maintaining an active caseload to meet project deliverables;
- Conducting outreach and education with local organizations and partners;
Responsibilities
As a Staff Attorney, your day-to-day activities will be divided among:
- Client Support and Representation (75%): Provide consults, direct legal representation, and prepare documents for clients in various types of immigration cases;
- Community Outreach and Education (15%): Develop and execute outreach strategies, present information sessions, and engage with local organizations;
- Immigration Clinic Support (10%): Provide consults, legal support, and review at weekly clinics, train volunteers, and aid in operational elements;
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- A J.D. degree and active membership in the California State Bar;
- A minimum of one year of immigration experience, preferably with removal proceeding experience and experience working with refugees, victims of domestic violence, crimes, and trafficking;
- Experience assisting immigrant, limited English speaking, and/or low-income clients;
- Excellent legal writing, speaking, and organizational skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients;
- Bilingual fluency in an AAPI language strongly preferred;
- Self-motivation, ability to work independently, and flexibility to travel within the county and state.
Compensation
The estimated salary for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
