Position Summary
The Anesthesia Technician plays a crucial role in providing patient care, ensuring safety, and executing technical responsibilities to assist anesthesia and nursing teams in surgical and procedural environments. This role involves responding to specific patient needs, including managing blood, medications, supplies, and equipment during surgical interventions. The Anesthesia Technician is an integral member of the Anesthesia OR emergency response team, ensuring that all emergency safety equipment is readily available and functional.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitates the provision of anesthesia and related supplies as required, managing medications within the defined scope of practice as directed by anesthesia and pharmacy professionals.
- Organizes and maintains anesthesia supplies and equipment to guarantee their availability, responding promptly to the needs of anesthesia providers.
- Conducts cleaning and disinfection of instruments, ensuring high-level disinfection and processing standards are met.
- Assists in the care of patients at risk for malignant hyperthermia and performs other duties within the established scope of practice.
- Conducts testing and support for anesthesia machines across various hospital areas.
- Implements patient identification protocols to ensure the accurate delivery of blood products and medications.
- Operates surgical equipment under the supervision of licensed providers.
- Ensures that all Operating Rooms and pre/post-operative areas are adequately stocked with the necessary supplies and equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness and readiness of Operating Rooms, procedure areas, and pre/post-operative rooms for subsequent patients to promote safe and efficient operations.
- Implements infection control policies by cleaning equipment and supporting anesthesia practices in surgical and procedural settings.
- Assists anesthesia and nursing staff with patient care, equipment management, and maintaining the environment in the Operating Room.
- Contributes to room turnover processes, which include restocking and cleaning anesthesia carts between surgical cases.
- Performs sterile processing tasks, which involve sterilization, high-level disinfection, and cleaning of instruments and equipment.

Licensing/Certification Requirements
BLS Basic Life Support certification is required.
Educational Qualifications
A High School diploma or GED is required.
Experience
Prior experience in surgical settings or sterile processing is preferred.
