About the Role

Powell Industries is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our quality assurance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of quality in our electrical products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and Test Electrical Equipment: Conduct thorough inspections and tests on electrical equipment to ensure compliance with industry standards and company specifications.
  • Monitor Electrical Operations: Monitor electrical operations in the shop to identify potential quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform Skid Inspections: Inspect skids for structural, dimensional, visual welding, and paint defects, ensuring compliance with customer requirements.
  • Install and Program Electronic Equipment: Install, program, and operate electronic equipment such as relays, OBRs, PLCs, and HMIs.
  • Power Up Electrical Products: Safely power up electrical products and other buyout equipment, performing pre-commissioning checks.
  • Investigate Equipment Failures: Investigate equipment failures and perform root cause analysis to identify and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure Quality Documentation: Ensure that quality documentation is up-to-date and being utilized during work activities.
  • Complete Quality Control Documentation: Complete and maintain all test quality control documentation as required.
  • Perform Maintenance and Calibration: Perform maintenance and calibration on test equipment as needed.
  • Identify and Report Non-Conformances: Identify and report non-conformances to the Manufacturing Manager, ensuring that corrective actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
  • Interact with Departments: Interact with all departments, including shop, engineering, sales, shipping, fabrication, PCR, and switchgear, to resolve quality-related issues.
  • Coordinate with Customers: Coordinate with customers and QC inspectors to resolve shop problems and Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Record Discrepancies and Shortages: Record engineering and shop discrepancies and shortages.
  • Promote a Safety Culture: Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
  • Ensure Quality: Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying potential risks to product quality.
  • Maintain a Clean and Organized Work Environment: Ensure that work areas remain clean and well-organized.
Requirements
  • Education: Diploma in Electrical Engineering, BS Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent (Journeyman Electrician Trade Ticket is an asset).
  • Experience: Minimum 0-3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Skills: Familiarity with test equipment such as multi-meters, clamp-on meters, voltage detectors, Hi-Pot, etc. Basic level computer skills in MS Office products.
  • Knowledge: Intermediate experience working with industry codes and standards, and ability to refer to applicable codes. Basic knowledge of electrical theory and relevant mechanical experience.
  • Language: Must have an exceptional command of the English language, both written and verbal.
Working Conditions
  • Safety Sensitive Position: This is a safety-sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Required to always wear personal protective equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses, and respirators) when required.
  • Physical Requirements: Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs. Continuous standing, walking, and occasional sitting.
