We are seeking a driven and creative artist who embodies the innovative ethos and enthusiasm for exceptional filmmaking that characterizes Industrial Light & Magic. The Virtual Art Department (VAD) serves as a crucial link between Production Design and Visual Effects. The VAD Artist collaborates with the Production Art Department team to develop Real-Time environments and assets tailored for Virtual Production scouting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop 3D Real-Time assets through modeling, texturing, and basic lighting to construct immersive 3D environments.
- Establish blocking geometry for initial environment layouts.
- Design props and settings to enhance the visual narrative.
- Process and refine photogrammetry assets for optimal use.
- Optimize assets and environments for performance during scouting sessions.
- Provide updates to Production and VAD Supervisor while adhering to specific artistic guidance.
- Contribute as a collaborative team member by offering various aesthetic solutions and participating in regular feedback sessions.
- Guide and mentor Apprentice and Junior Artists, assisting them with their projects.
- Work diligently to achieve defined milestones within established timelines.
Qualifications
- A solid foundation in photorealistic, traditional, or digital art skills, particularly in landscapes and interiors.
- Experience with Real-Time engines such as Unreal or Unity.
- A proven ability to swiftly learn new software tools.
- A Bachelor's Degree or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, whether professional or amateur.
- Demonstrated proficiency in one or more CG techniques, including modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, look development, matte painting, or compositing, or a strong artistic background in a non-CG discipline.
- A collaborative individual with excellent communication skills and interdisciplinary thinking.
- Familiarity with software packages such as Photoshop, 3DsMax, Maya, Perforce, and 3D painting programs like Substance Painter. Comparable software experience will also be considered.
The compensation for this role will reflect internal equity and may vary based on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. Additional compensation elements, such as bonuses or long-term incentive units, may be included as part of the overall package, alongside a comprehensive range of medical, financial, and other benefits, depending on the level and position offered.
