Position Overview:

Tides Family Services is in search of a Specialized Physical Education Instructor to design and execute innovative physical education programs specifically tailored for students with moderate to severe trauma and behavioral needs.

This role involves facilitating physical fitness, safety practices, and motor skills development as outlined in individual IEPs. The instructor will employ engaging teaching methods, diverse assessments, and questioning techniques to inspire and support all students. Additionally, the instructor will advocate for healthy lifestyle choices and social skills, ensuring that modifications are safe and suitable.

Key Responsibilities:


Deliver a suitable and innovative adapted physical education program aimed at meeting the needs of individual students with moderate to severe trauma and behavioral challenges, as specified in the IEP. This includes promoting physical fitness, safety practices, good health, neuromuscular coordination, balance, strength, mobility, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills, and achievement in sports and games.

Utilize instructional strategies that effectively challenge, motivate, and engage all trauma-informed students, fostering equitable and active participation.

Establish a productive learning environment where all students are respected.
Employ a variety of assessments during instruction to monitor student progress.
Encourage students to appreciate the significance of Physical Education and Health.
Assist students in cultivating healthy lifestyle habits and social skills.

Apply knowledge of exercise physiology to safely modify expectations in physical education to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students.

Incorporate various questioning and discussion techniques during instruction.
Commit to professional development by actively participating in department meetings, faculty meetings, and professional growth initiatives.
Engage in extracurricular activities hosted at Tides' School, collaborate with the team, and fulfill all professional responsibilities.
Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
Involve families in their children's education by building relationships and maintaining consistent communication.

Qualifications:
Experience in physical education with a minimum of 3-6 years in K-12, charter, or other non-traditional educational settings.

A proven track record of delivering adaptive physical education that ensures excellence in physical education, health, and therapeutic lessons for students.

Ability to support the intellectual, physical, and social development of at-risk youth through a comprehensive program that promotes academic success and prepares students for life.

Proficient in instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for achieving identified goals and objectives.
Encourage students to appreciate the importance of Physical Education and Health.
RIDE Certified in elementary or secondary Physical Education - Health and RIDE Certified in Adaptive Physical Education for elementary or secondary levels. Physical Education Certification completed or in progress. Valid driver's license and registered/inspected vehicle - Required.

Compensation Range:
$50,000-$68,500. The qualifications listed above represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to satisfactorily perform essential duties. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
