Survey Researcher - Education Statistics

At American Institutes for Research, we are seeking a highly skilled Survey Researcher to join our Education Statistics team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing statistical evidence that is meaningful, timely, accurate, and trustworthy in support of our mission to make the world a better, more equitable place.

About the Role

The Survey Researcher will apply quantitative and qualitative research methods to improve the development, operations, and reporting for large-scale surveys. You will work on teams that conduct work on all aspects of survey methods and operations, quality management, and data analysis.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and review of qualitative and quantitative data collection instruments, including survey questionnaires, interview protocols, and focus group protocols.
  • Support the development and execution of theoretically-sound, practical approaches to achieve the statistical objectives of a study or project.
  • Conduct technical reviews of data collection and data processing plans and specifications for accuracy, completeness, and technical soundness.
  • Perform quality checks of data files for errors and anomalies and communicate potential issues to the client.
  • Assist with the conduct of disclosure risk analysis on restricted- and public-use data files.
  • Disseminate study methods and results internally and externally.
  • Manage small- to medium-sized tasks, including contributing to client meetings and overseeing junior analysts.
  • Provide input for technical sections and budget estimates for proposals.
  • Support learning opportunities for junior staff working on large-scale survey projects.
Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate with a PhD degree in fields such as survey methodology, statistics, economics, psychology, sociology, computer science, public policy, public health, or other social science-related fields. Alternatively, a Master's degree with equivalent experience is also acceptable.

The ideal candidate will have a proficient understanding of and experience with survey methodology, survey operations, survey data processing, and/or survey data analysis. Experience with federal surveys and large-scale datasets and knowledge of federal data collection standards is preferred.
